Girl`s Guide
Background/ Rationale
Adolescence is a crucial period that offers a unique opportunity to address issues with far-reaching effects on individuals and their communities(Chaku and Davis‐Kean, 2024). This phase is especially critical for young girls in developing countries, as it encompasses profound physiological, psychological, and social transformations that shape their futures (Marsh et al., 2024). In Pakistan and other developing nations, adolescent girls often face significant vulnerabilities during this transformative phase, including early school dropout, child marriage, teenage pregnancy, and exposure to gender-based violence. These challenges are further intensified by limited knowledge and inadequate support concerning reproductive health, personal hygiene, and bodily autonomy (Afzal et al., 2024)
Equipping adolescents with comprehensive knowledge about reproductive health, puberty, hygiene, and the distinction between appropriate and inappropriate touch is crucial for empowering them to make informed decisions about their bodies and future(Taylor, 2023). Empowering young girls and enhancing their knowledge and skills can significantly impact their health, economic stability, and overall contribution to society. Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) are closely knitted in the human rights framework as they overlap with other human rights such as the right to health and life (Khan et al., 2023). The role of adolescent girls is a key demographic in breaking the cycle of poverty, while the premature expectations placed upon them, often before they are biologically or emotionally prepared. Interventions targeted at this age group are thus vital for building a foundation of lifelong well-being, improved health outcomes, and empowerment (Iqbal, 2023)
