BS (Transfusion)
Introduction of Program
The University Of Health Science (UHS) is a prestigious institution of the country imparting quality training in the Medical field since 2002. It offers many graduate level and post graduate programs for medical and allied health sciences. Now UHS Department of Hematology is introducing a BS program in Transfusion medicine. This program will be for undergraduate students who come after F. Sc (Pre Medical). The duration of BS Transfusion medicine course will be 4 years. This program comprises theoretical as well as practical knowledge in blood banking and Transfusion Medicine.
The aim of the program is to produce well trained and qualified technologists who have a gross knowledge of basic subjects as well as ample practical skills in the field of blood banking and Transfusion medicine.
The course encompasses the basic medical subjects like Anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology and general pathology, followed by a thorough study of blood banking and transfusion medicine. It has been structured to allow division of curriculum inadequate sections. Students will be assessed through a semester system of examination.
The program focuses on providing a high quality academic and practical training. The subjects as well as the assessment plan are designed to stimulate intellect and instill the knowledge, skills, confidence, independence and versatility for a successful career in blood banking and transfusion medicine.
The end goal to be achieved by this program is to create skilled manpower which will be able to fulfill the requirement of regional as well as national blood banking and transfusion medicine services.
Objectives
To prepare a cadre of transfusion technologists and workers who can effectively assist senior health professionals in the delivery of quality blood transfusion services.
To introduce and impart standard technical education with new modern techniques, within the fields of blood banking.
To provide transfusion technologists a status and recognition in the health care delivery system through improving their capacity along with increasing awareness of their responsibilities, authority and job description.
To equip transfusion technologists with modern skills and the latest technical knowledge and bring them at par with other national and international level.
Career Opportunities
After completion of the 4-years undergraduate studies, graduates will receive a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Transfusion Medicine. Upon receiving this degree, graduates will have the necessary foundation for further education in post-graduate programs. In addition, graduates will have the opportunity to find employment in blood banks, private diagnostic laboratories and research institutes.
