Research:
Department of Family Medicine UHS has conducted a comprehensive research project on �Learning Needs Assessment of Medical Officers working in Primary and Secondary Healthcare system in Punjab�. The result of this study will help in tailoring academic activities according to the learning needs of doctors.
Four proposals are in the process of approvals by Ethical Review Board of UHS whereas another 4 research proposals are in the process of synopsis writing.
The Department has also introduced the concept of research and audit in Master Trainer program and many research proposals are expected to emerge out of this Master Trainer program.
Contribution to MD/MS Programs:
Department of Family Medicine is actively engaged in conducting Communication Skills workshops for Postgraduate Trainees of MD/MS programs of UHS being conducted in various training institutions throughout Punjab. The workshops conducted by Family Medicine faculty are being highly appreciated by trainees because of their relevance to clinical practice.
Master Trainer Course:
This is the first ever Train the Trainer program organized over a period of one year. The participants of this Master Trainer programs are already qualified family physicians with either MCPS or MRCGP [INT] and are determined to teach Family Medicine. The program is a blended learning program over a period of one year. It consists of twelve workshops which are conducted by both national and international faculty members. These workshops are interactive and entail video recording of performance of participants (role plays) and feedback. These Master Trainers are expected to join training institutions in both public and private sector and also offer their practices for training for Family Medicine both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Contribution to Undergraduate Program:
Department of Family Medicine UHS played a leading role in developing the curriculum of Family Medicine for MBBS in the light of PMC (Former PMDC) notification in this regard. The department engaged with Family Medicine departments all over Pakistan and came up a consensus curriculum which has been submitted to the Medical Education Committee of PMC (Former PMDC).
Contribution to National Family Medicine Committee of Pakistan:
The Department of Family Medicine UHS is responsible for secretarial services to National Family Medicine Committee of Pakistan and participates in sub committees working on different assignments. The department hosts the national meeting through video conferences. The Committee is a common platform for all Family Medicine department of Pakistan and all Family Medicine organizations of Pakistan with technical assistance from medical educationists and public health experts.
Islamabad Health Project:
The department of Family Medicine UHS is part of technical team working on Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Primary health project and attended meetings in Islamabad on this matter. The department also provided nominations of Family Medicine specialists in Islamabad region for this project.
